Description
“A casa di Meo”is located in the Province of Lucca, and more precisely in Torcigliano which is in the municipal district of Pescaglia. In origin the house was a stable: the farmers, who cultivated the land and looked after the horses, lived on the upper floor. From the photos it is still possible to admire the so called “mandorlato”, a structure of slanting bricks which let wind and light in to dry hay.
The people of house, besides being farmers, owned a big cart used to carry wood from the country to the bakers in Lucca: we could say they had a small road haulage company.
After the death of the farmers, the house was inhabited by the aunts of the present owner who has decided to name the three houses after his aunts. Two years ago the estate was restored keeping unchanged the characteristics of the ancient hamlet and the welcoming atmosphere typical of a country house.
The property consists of three houses:
Casa Zita, 8 bed + 1 It is the place where hay was put to dry. It is composed of a spacious dining room with the “mandorlato”. There are four bedrooms, three double and a single ( it is possible to add a small bed), two big bathrooms and a kitchen which opens onto a terrace of about 35 square metres where it is possible to take meals and enjoy the view. The house has two private parking places and a wide garden
In the common garden of the hamlet there is a marvellous swimming pool 1.40 metres deep. The garden, 550 square metres wide, is equipped with sun umbrellas, deck chairs and sun beds. Near the hamlet there is the estate owner’s beautiful manège with ten horses. Riding courses are available at any level with professional instructors and for children above six there are two nice ponies that they can ride with the help of the instructors. Horse trekking activities are also available:
- Half day horse trekking – with lunch in a traditional restaurant
- 1 or 2 day horse trekking – in the Apuane Park with an overnight stay in tents or agriturisms.
Torcigliano is a small and peaceful village in the green. In the past it was inhabited by farmers and ironmongers. One of the last of them lives 10 km far from Torcigliano. The village is only a ten minute drive from the historical town of Lucca and twenty from Viareggio. In 25 minutes you can reach Torre del Lago Puccini, Forte dei Marmi and The Apuane Park. Pisa is a twenty minute drive from the village and Florence forty. “A casa di Meo” is the ideal place for those who look for peace, relaxation, tradition and culture.
